【アマゾンの泥染め】とは
アマゾンの泥染めは、ペルーアマゾンの先住民族による伝統工芸で、今も細々と受け継がれている希少価値の高い染め物です。
茶色と白地の二種類あり、どちらも「タンニン」を含む樹皮を煮出した染料と、森の奥地から採取する「鉄分」の強い特別な泥の化合を利用した染色方法で、フリーハンドで描かれる幾何学模様のデザインの部分だけが黒く染まることが特徴です。

茶色●樹皮から煮出す茶色の染料で布を繰り返し染めた後に、鉄分の多い特別な泥でデザインを描き、最後に泥は洗い流します。
白地●デザインを描いた上から全面に泥を付けて模様だけが染まり、最後に泥は洗い流します。
